Our Story

The Legacy of Pachalla’s: Spices for Royalty, now crafted for the World!

”The tale of the Pachalla’s, a lineage born from the heart of the Vijayanagara Empire, known for their extraordinary spices”.

Our story unfolds in the quaint village of Cumbum, nestled amidst the verdant valleys of Andhra Pradesh. Here, a Sharma family, practiced their ancient art of spice blending. The head of the family was a venerable figure whose hands, though wrinkled and worn, mixed spices with an alchemy that turned simple meals into feasts fit for deities.

During the reign of King Krishnadevaraya, while overseeing the construction of the grand anicut at Cumbum Cheruvu, the monarch expressed a desire to experience the region’s authentic local cuisine. At the recommendation of the locals, he was introduced to the Sharma family, renowned for their culinary expertise in spices and pickles. Upon tasting their exquisite dishes, Krishnadevaraya was so impressed that he honored the family with the royal title “Pachalla,” symbolizing their mastery in the art of spice-making and pickling.

In addition to the title, the king gifted the family a piece of land, which would come to be known as Pachalla Venkatapura Agraharam, a small village in what is now Bestavaripeta Mandal, Prakasam District, Andhra Pradesh. From that moment, the Pachalla family’s fate became intertwined with the empire, as they were appointed as one of the spice makers for the royal court of Vijayanagara—a legacy of craftsmanship and culinary tradition.

A Legacy Preserved Through Generations

For centuries, the Pachalla family carried forward this legacy, perfecting their art in crafting aromatic spices and masala blends. Though their reputation grew, they remained devoted to their craft, choosing to preserve the tradition within their family rather than venture into commercial markets. Their secret recipes continued to be passed down, generation after generation, ensuring that the taste of royalty was never lost.

The Dream to Bring Forgotten Flavors Back to Life

It wasn’t until the vision of Late Shri Nataraj, a descendant of this proud lineage, that the idea of sharing these royal flavors with the world was born. Shri Nataraj and Smt. Vinoda Nataraj recognizing the importance of heritage, dreamed of reintroducing these authentic spices and masalas to the public, allowing them to savor the same taste once enjoyed by kings.

Today, their sons, Shri Vinay and Shri Naveen, alongside Vinay’s wife Sudha, have embraced this dream. They have made it their mission to revive and preserve the heritage of Pachalla’s. With a deep respect for tradition, they aim to bring these forgotten flavors back into modern kitchens, where they can be enjoyed by families all over the world.
